GMs wish they could build around Crosby

If you could pick one player to build your team around for the next five years, who would it be? A sniper like Alexander Ovechkin? A playmaker like Sidney Crosby? Maybe a stalwart goaltender such as Roberto Luongo?

That's the question TSN asked 28 NHL general managers and the result isn't terribly surprising...

the franchise player most coveted was Crosby, with 98 points in a 5-3-1 weighted system. Crosby was the top choice on 15 ballots.

Ovechkin topped Luongo 66 to 38 in terms of voting points, but its worth noting that Canucks captain had more first place votes (7) than the Russian gunner (5).

1) Not surprising that Crosby is still regarded to be a smidgen better than Ovechkin, despite Alex's amazing all around season.
2) Had Crosby been healthy and still been beat out by Ovechkin than perhaps folks would have changed this perception.
3) Therefore in our opinion this season will hopefully see both stay healthy and one solidify who the best player really is.

Faux, I don't expect this season to settle the Ovy/Sid argument...It's likely going to be a back-and-forth battle of supremacy.

Individual accolades aside, the interesting part now is both of their teams are finally built up and we're ready to see who can consistently keep getting further in the playoffs.
